O’Donovan’s take 3 of the best from Blue London

O’Donovan Waste Disposal Limited is one of London’s leading independent waste management and recycling companies. Looking to purchase three very different types of plant to further enhance their waste processing and recycling capabilities, O’Donovan turned to Blue Machinery London – one of the few specialist plant and equipment distributors in the UK able to provide a single source for the required market-leading machinery to satisfy O’Donovan’s diverse needs.

Over the past few months, Blue Machinery London has delivered a Powerscreen Powertrak 750 mobile screener, a Doppstadt DW-3060K mobile shredder and a Marathon 250 two-ram baling press which is equipped with a BlueMAC feeder.

The Powertrak 750 is a high capacity mobile screener with a potential output of up to 600 tonnes per hour, depending on the application and screen media used. The Powertrak 750 can handle the toughest scalping tasks and its lively screening action delivers high performance in fine screening applications, processing materials such as crusher run and topsoil. A vibrating grid feed-in width of 4.4m allows easy feed by excavator, loading shovel or grab.

Quick set-up times, compact dimensions to facilitate transportation, maximum mobility on site with heavy-duty low ground pressure crawler tracks, user-friendly operation and maintenance all contribute towards the worldwide success and popularity of the Powertrak 750 in contracting, quarrying, rental and recycling applications. O’Donovan produces a high quality end-product from the Powertrak 750 and such is the confidence in the plant’s productivity and reliability that they also offer this versatile machine for hire throughout Greater London and the Home Counties.

The crawler-mounted Doppstadt DW-3060K is a heavy-duty shredder designed to handle large bulk timber and woodwaste, mixed construction waste and industrial refuse. This single shaft shredder has numerous beneficial features which include optimum roller and comb teeth arrangements which ensure comprehensive shredding of the feed material; reversible fan wheel; generous hopper shape and size for easy loading; electrically controlled roller reversing and a large return conveyor.

The DW-3060K produces recyclables to exacting specifications and enables significant volume reductions – all with a reliability, productivity and fuel economy which belie its size. O’Donovan’s new shredder is hard at work at the company’s Tottenham MRF, pre-shredding material prior to trommel screening and speeding up the process by shredding waste to a manageable size. An additional benefit also is the significant volume reduction of the processed waste on site, which contributes to space-saving storage at this compact location.

Marathon’s Model 250 Galaxy2R twin-ram baling press is equipped with a highly efficient power unit and features a robust, full-penetration compaction ram to produce high density bales to the requisite transport dimensions. A state-of-the-art programmable PLC controller provides automatic and manual control, diagnostics and bale set-up functions, which enable operators to swiftly and easily switch to match differing recyclables. A multi-purpose door serves as a bale separator, bale release or bale clamp and also allows for variable bale widths. The baler also has an adjustable shear beam, replaceable and reversible shear blades and main ram as well as ejector ram laser positioning.

O’Donovan Waste Disposal Limited was founded by the late Joe O’Donovan in the 1950’s. A native of West Cork in Ireland, he was a popular figure and a great character who quickly built a reputation as a man who did what he promised. Today, his four children run the business, continuing his legacy – CEO Michael, Operational Director Caroline, Anthony and Jacqueline who is the Managing Director. Over the years the company has grown to become one of London’s largest, leading, independent waste management organisations, employing over 140 staff and with an impressive modern fleet of vehicles, plant and equipment. The company operates two licensed waste transfer stations and a Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) in North London. In addition to waste management, O’Donovan Waste Disposal also offers skip hire and roll on/off bins, tipper and grab lorry services, recycled and quarried aggregates, crushing and screening, road sweepers, wheeliebin collection and demolition services.

Commenting on the company’s newly acquired machinery, Jacqueline O’Donovan said, “We certainly did our due diligence on the equipment available in the marketplace but it was the build quality and efficiency that helped us to make the obvious choice. We also have a long standing and strong relationship with the team at Blue London and their sales director Barry O’Regan. I therefore know that any issues with any of the equipment will be dealt with immediately to minimise downtime and keep our business running”.

As a family-owned and independent company, O’Donovan Waste Disposal Limited is highly progressive in its outlook and vision for the future, with environmental performance at the forefront of the business planning and corporate ethos. The company has undertaken several initiatives to reduce the organisation’s carbon emissions and introduce better environmental practices, resulting in a greener business. This work has been recognised by various accolades, including FORS Gold Standard achievement and an award for ‘Green Business Innovators’ presented by Middlesex University.
