Blue Machinery Ireland have been confirmed as the new headline sponsor for prestigious Killeen Pro-Am golf tournament, which is played at the splendid Killeen Golf Club.

The event will now be known as the Blue Ireland Killeen Pro-Am, in association with Killaree Lighting, who are the support sponsor, and the tournament, under the new backing, will be held on Friday 19th August.

This relatively new tournament was launched in 2015, yet proved an instant success. Last year 184 golfers took to the lush, tree lined fairways of the Kildare venue including 46 of the leading golf pro’s in the country, including Waterville’s very own former European Tour Player David Higgins, Challenge Tour Player Niall Kearney, Order of Merit Leader, Eamonn Brady as well as renowned Lady Professionals Hazel Kavanagh & Rebecca Codd. All golfers had nothing but praise for the challenging course, with many pro’s putting it up in the top echelons of courses on the PGA in Ireland 2015 calendar – a high accolade by all accounts. Damien Mooney & Steven Quinlan shared the spoils in 2015, on -4 Par (68); a score that will be a good benchmark for the Professionals to surpass this year, as they endeavour to scoop first prize.

A number of teams from Blue Ireland will be eligible to participate in the event and the company’s corporate branding will be on display across the venue during the event.

Blue director Ronan Brophy said: “We are delighted to become the headline sponsor of this event, which is competed for on such a magnificent course.

“The combination of excellent golfing features and a first-class condition course means this event is fast becoming a well-established and much-anticipated tournament in the golfing calendar.”

Killeen’s Director of Golf, Brian Cosgrove added: “We are very excited by this new sponsorship agreement with Blue which can help us develop the event even further.

“We are enormously grateful to SIG Ireland & KN Networks for its sponsorship in 2015 and we now look forward to working with Blue Ireland to build on last year’s success, potentially attracting more players to the event which in turn will enhance the prize money on offer.”

The tournament, currently boasts a professional prize fund of €10,000 for the Professional Prize Fund, while the teams of 1 P.G.A. Professional and 3 amateurs compete for a wonderful array of golf prizes, with 2 scores to count on each hole.
