In the windsifter, the materials are separated by a process that is divided into three main components, which are the acceleration belt, the air jet and the windsifter separation drum. The material is initially spread across the entire belt before being transported to the 'ejection edge'. The materials fall from the edge into an up current that is generated through an adjustable air jet. Heavy material falls through the jet of air, while lights move up and forward towards a rotation drum which carries them over the top to separate them out from the heavy fraction.
